Skills

Attendance
My attendance at the work experience was 100% as I attended everyday throughout the week and then again on the Saturday which I had to have approved off at work to have the day off to be able to attend.

Punctuality
My punctuality on my work experience was great as I arrived on time everyday if not early as on average I arrived at 8:50 each day and began working as soon as I arrived everyday apart from Wednesday when we left for the meeting as soon as I arrived at the office to make it on time for the meeting.

Skills
I represented my skills as I was able to create the ballot boxes and the information stand poster on my own with no help from the people at The Marketing Collective. As I was able to use my creative and arty side to successfully create these boxes which fit within the image of the Hamble Valley brand which I gained inspiration from the cut out boards which they had in the office which they had used at their Hamble Valley Festival of Food last September. I also showed my qualities when using the computers as I was able to use my current knowledge along side with the skills which I was taught on my work experience.

Qualities
My qualities such as confidence and talkative came into use when at the meeting on Wednesday at the Museum of Army Flying with some of the Hampshire Top Attractions members as I was able to talk to different people from different attractions such as Paulton's Park, Exbury Gardens, Marwell Zoo and Go Ape about why I was attending the meeting and what I was doing with The Marketing Collective and what elements of work which I had done with them and also learning more about their businesses and showing an interest in what they was saying about them.

Behaviours in the Work Place
My behaviour when in the work place was professional as I ensured I got all the work done to a standard of quality which I was happy with which was the standard that The Marketing Collective was also proud off.

Technical Skills Development
The technical skills which I have developed are to be able to highlight a large amount of text quickly by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'A' at the same time which highlights a large amount of text. Was also shown how to take images on an Apple Mac Computer and how to edit them over Photoshop to change the size of the image to fit in with the image size scale to fit the Hampshire Top Attractions Page.

Meeting Career Objectives
I have met my career objective by learning more about the two industries which I was targeting; Travel and Media. This was due to looking at different attractions included in the Hampshire Top Attractions group and how The Marketing Collective provide fair and professional marketing for each of these attractions to help promote Southampton and Hampshire in different online methods.

Employment Opportunity Enhancement
After my work experience The Marketing Collective said that they would love to have me again if I ever needed future work experience or if I wanted to help out on their next event which is Saturday 3rd September which would also require me booking time of work. I am hoping to accept this to be able to help out on this before I go to University in September. Partaking in this work experience has made me want to focus this industry as a future career to I am now hoping to study Event Management at Southampton Solent University as this has inspired me to go into this job from the enjoyment which I had on my work experience.

Gaining Experience
Gaining this experience has benefited me a lot as I am now able to use these skills which I have learnt in my current and future job as I have learnt new technological skills and learnt more about the industries which I wanted too which will continue to benefit me as I now have a wider knowledge of the industry and how it works so successfully.

Part-time Employment
While working on my work experience I also had to manage my part-time employment at Haskins Garden Centre, in preparation for the work experience I had informed Haskins that I was unable to work the late-night evening shift on Thursday (5-7:30) as there wouldn't be enough time to get home and then get myself ready for work to begin working at 5 so I was booked off on this date as well as the Saturday for the St Georges Day event with The Marketing Collective. But when on my work experience on Thursday I received a message from my Manager at work asking me to come in as someone had called in sick which meant I explained to my manager I would go but would make it there for 5:30 so after my work experience I went into work.

Meeting Curriculum Objectives
I met my curriculum objective of 'Ensure I correctly fill out my log book during the placement' which I have done successfully by maintaining my blog and including the key elements of what I done throughout the week.

Post Event

After the event everyone who filled out the slip to receive an email from The Marketing Collective which included an attached questionnaire which they had to fill out to then be apart of the competition to win a prize. I also had the email sent to me so I could give feedback to the event to The Marketing Collective. The basis of this questionnaire was to gather information of how the public thought the event went so that they can make any required improvements for their next event which is Saturday 3rd September. The image below shows the email which myself and others who entered would have received.

Day 6 - Event Day

23.4.16

Today was the day of the event. In order for me to be able attend the event I had to get the time of at my current place of employment at Haskins Garden Centre - Restaurant - West End, this was approved by them so I was able to attend the event. I arrived at the event at 10am in Hamble wearing the 'Event Staff' t-shirt I was provided with by The Marketing Collective, shown to the right. When I first arrived at the event it wasn't extremely busy as it started at 10am so I arrived the same time as the public for the event as The Marketing Collective did not need any help in the setting up process.

When I arrived I went and took photographs of the different stalls at the Hamble Festival, the photos shown to the left is the stall which I was working on with The Marketing Collective. You can also see the ballot boxes and poster which I created for the event. These was successful as members of the public was coming over to the stand to ask questions about what was going on at the event and where they could find stuff at the event. Also the boxes was used for the competitions by members of the public. The final 15 bunting entry's for the competition can be seen on the right where we laid them all out on a table for the public to be able to see all of them so that they could vote fairly, once they had picked their favourite piece of bunting they had to put it into the bunting ballot box which I created them was able to pick a lolly pop from the pot of sweets which we had.

After I had finished at the event I was given a card and a box of chocolates by The Marketing Collective as a thank you for being with them this week. They also said that if I ever needed any more work experience placements they would be more than happy to have me again and that I am more than welcome to help out again at their next Hamble Festival on Saturday 3rd September 2016.

The photographs below show the different stools at the event from Saturday 23rd April 2016.

Day 5

22.4.16
Today I had to finalise my method of transportation to the event for tomorrow as I do not have use of a personal vechile. I looked at getting a train from Swaytlhing which is the closest train station to my house and then getting a train to the Hamble Train Station which is jsut up the road from the event. If I did use this method of transportation Laura who works at The Marketing Collective would pick me up from the station at Hamble and then drive me to the event with her. Alternatively, my father would also be able to take me to the event, so because of this I am asking my father to take me to the event. In preparation for the event The Marketing Collective gave me a T-Shirt today to wear for the event tomorrow so that people at the event know that I am working on it.

Later on in the day I had to do the HTA Data inputting, where I was sorting out the feedback from the questionnaires which The Marketing Collective sent out. There was 100's of different results which was not matched together I then had to group all the data together. The question which I was sorting was "What else would you like to see on the Hampshire's Top Attractions website?" this is because the HTA are currently in the planning process of having a brand new website for the start of 2017 so they want to know from their audiences what they want to see on the website and any improvements which can be made.

Day 4

21.4.16

Today when I arrived at the office I completed the poster which I had been creating the day before for the Information Stand for the event on Saturday. I completed this by sticking all the pieces onto the board, I included the England flag on the poster because the theme of the event is St Georges Day. The image to the right shows the finished poster board which I created.

After I completed the board me, Louise and Laura went to the printing office in Chanders Ford, after this we went to Hamble School to pick up the bunting for the competition on Saturday at the St Georges Day event. After we had collected the bunting we returned to the office in Eastleigh where me and Louise narrowed down the 180 entrys to the best 15 to go into the next stage of the competition shown to the left is all the entrys which we recivedfor the competition.

Shown to the right shows the final 15 which we have selected for the competiton, from now it is down to members of the public at the event on Saturday to pick the best one which will then win the competition and recieve a family ticket to one of the Hampshire Top Attractions venue for a day.
Although the other entrys was not put into the final 15 we still wanted them to be shown on Saturday so from this I bunted all of the entrys together in groups of 10 following the same method for each one, the bunting completed on one of the sets can be seen in the image to the left and then the image to the right below shows all of the sets of bunting which I created for the event. These are going to be spread out through various different stools on Saturday so that they will be seen all around and the event will have a strong St Georges theme to it as this was the theme on all of the bunting.

Day 3 - Meeting

20.4.16

Today we attended a meeting with the different attractions which are included on the Hampshire Top Attractions (HTA) website for a quarterly meeting and update. The meeting was based at the Museum of Army Flying which is where all the organisations met within the conference room.
Within the meeting they went over the facts and figures, developments of the new HTA website, yearly budget and new improvements or attractions at the event. Some organisations which was at the meeting were; Paultons Park, Exbury Gardens, Marwell Zoo, Museum of Army Flying, Hilliard Gardens and Go Ape, with also including myself and Louise from The Marketing Collective. Tlhe HTA has 58 members so not all the organisations came to the meeting due to illness and other conferences which was arranged.

After the conference me and Louise had to get a train back to the office in Eastleigh, so from this we got a train from Andover Station to Basingstoke Station, then got on a Basingstoke to Eastleigh. Then we went to gather supplies for the event on saturday; sweets and table cloths. We then headed back to the office where I continued to work on the Information Stand poster where I created more things to go on the board, this included flowers, stars, butterflies, crabs. I did not get to finish this today due to being out of the office for the meeting for the majority of the day but I brang some of the equipment home to be able to do some extra work at home to get the poster finished tomorrow morning before we go to the printing office for the event stuff.

Day 2

19.4.16

On my second day at The Marketing Collective I spent the day creating stuff for the event on Saturday.

When I first arrived at the office in the morning I finished the box which I started the day before, this took me 10 minutes to finish as I just had to ensure that all the pieces of paper was still stuck to the box and that nothing had fallen off or had been damaged. I then added a pink rectangle around the hole on top of the ballot box to make this look smart and professional. This is the finished product which will be used at the Hamble Valley event on  Saturday 23rd April 2016. (Need to take this photo, will be uploaded tomorrow)

After I had finished the first ballot box I started the second one, this one was to be used for the event on Saturday aswell. I was able to finish this box today, I wanted to have this eye catching to draw peoples attention when at the event so I used loads off different colours and shapes on the ballot box. I also added a blue rectangle around the centre hole like I did on the first box. This makes the box look more professional as the lines are straight and the cardboard I cut out to make the hole is not completely straight so this just makes it look more professional and neat. You can see the finished product to the left.

After I had finished the box I had to write more cards like I had done yesterday for the Southampton Guest Guide 2016, this included the same message as yesterday but instead of the Winchester Guest Magazine 2016 I wrote the Southampton Guest Guide 2016. I had to write one of the cards (shown on the right) to all the customers who was being sent one of these magazines. I done this up until the afternoon where we broke for lunch.

After lunch I put all the magazines and the cards I had wrote into envolopes ready to be posted to the customers by Louise (member of The Marketing Collective). After I finished this job, I was set a task of creating a 'Information Stand' sign for the event on Saturday, I wanted the sign to have a similar look to the second box which I had created to show brand identity. From the box which I created I copied the strawberries and the sun to keep it similar.

I was unable to finish the board today so I will be finishing this tomorrow morning before our meeting with the clients of The Marketing Collective. The photo below shows how much I done on the poster today.

Day 1 - First Day

18.4.16

On my first day at The Marketing Collective I had the day divided into two sections.

In the morning I was inputting data and events to the Hampshire Attractions website which is ran by The Marketing Collective. For example, one of the events which I put onto the events page was 'Sky Dining with Stephanie Moon'. I done this by going onto the Spinnaker Tower website and looking on their events page and getting the information then I had to copy the information which had been wrote by the event organiser and put it onto the Hampshire Attractions website and then offered a 'More Information Here.' button on the website for audiences to be able to be directed to the original website of the event so that they can read about all the details. After I had included the event information, dates and times I had to upload an image so that people could see this on the main event page on the website. I uploaded the photograph of Stephanie Moon as this was the image which was being shown on the Spinnaker Tower website for this event.

The screenshots below from the Hampshire Top Attractions website of an event which I added to the website. The image on the left shows the event and how it would be seen on the events page and then when the audiences press 'Read More...' they will be directed to the page on the right.

After lunch I was writing cards to Winchester based customers of The Marketing Collective which said:
'Dear ***
Please find enclosed your copy of the Winchester Guest Magazine 2016. If you would like any more copies please get back to us on 02380 001655. Hope you enjoy this read. :)
Best, Emily'
After I had wrote these cards I had to write the addresses on the envelopes and enclose the magazine and the cards which I has previously wrote for each customer.

After I had finished doing the letters I started to create a ballot box for the event which is on Saturday 23rd April 2016 (St. Georges Day) for a child bunting competition. I started with a plain card board box and wrapped it in yellow paper so it was a neutral colour and then created little triangles out of other coloured paper to have the box having the same reference as the competition to make this easily visible to the eye. This was how the bow was after I had finished for today, which I will continue on tomorrow.

The Marketing Collective

The Marketing Collective

Address:  Wessex House, Upper Market St, Eastleigh SO50 9FD

I have applied for a work experience placement at Marketing Collective because I believe that I could adapt my Travel and Tourism and Media Studies skills to the work experience and learn new skills throughout the placement. This placement would benefit me as I would be able to learn new skills and expand on my current ones through the use of working within an organisation which specialises in both my courses at college. This is a marketing based organisation in the travel and tourism industry with also a large element of media included as they market different well known attractions around Hampshire.

A constraint of getting a work experience placement at Marketing Collective is travelling to and from the placement; this would include walking, bus, lift (taxi) or getting a train to the destination. To get to this destination I would get a train from Swaything Train Station and get off at Eastleigh then walk the rest of the duration to the building. The map to the right shows the distance from my house to The Marketing Collective which shows that I will need to arrange a method of transportation as this will be a 40 minute walk each way.

Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport

Address: Southampton, Hampshire SO18 2NL

I applied for work experience at Southampton Airport because believed I would fit the role well as I currently have good customer service skills which I have developed through my current employment at Haskins Garden Centre. When I applied for the Southampton Airport work experience in January 2016 I wrote a covering letter which was attached to my CV.

This is a transport based organisation within the travel and tourism industry and has a few roles of which I could see myself being able to do successfully. The job roles at the airport which I could see myself doing are; Airport Ambassador, the Airport Volunteer and Check in as these are very customer based and through my current skills of being a Student Ambassador at college and while working currently at Haskins Garden Centre and my previous job at McDonald’s. I could use my skills learnt through these to help me in these job situations. Another job role at the airport which I would also enjoy doing would be working in the security section of the airport as passengers go through customs. I believe that this would be a good learning experience as it would include interacting with all passengers that come through the airport and dealing with different varieties of customers which would benefit me in the future as the moods of customers would vary as they could be; angry, happy, sad, emotional, scared etc.

A constraint of getting a work experience placement would be the transportation of getting to Southampton Airport because I am able to get there through three different modes of transportation; walking, bus or a train. By choosing one of these three it would take me to the entrance of the airport. If I got the work experience placement at Southampton Airport I would walk to the destination as according to Google Maps it would only take me 21 minutes to walk there. The map to the right shows the distance between my house and Southampton Airport which shows the distance I will have to travel for this.
